If you are reading this looking for a small business that is totally professional with not only the work done, but the whole process from quote to finish. Without the hassle and expense of hiring a big corporation. Look no further. Steve did such a professional job. Everything was done with care and expertise down to replacing the smallest ring that covers the pipes to the wall (something we never would have considered). He communicated his progress every step of the way. We couldn’t be more pleased with the whole process and the end result of a bathroom we always dreamed of having. We recommend Zebra Remodeling to everyone, and would hire again without a second thought. Note: price shown was for labor only, we purchased most the physical items ourselves.

We hired Zebra Remodeling to renovate our hall bathroom. Steve was very professional, easy to work with, and the quality of his work is fantastic. He also provided good design suggestions - he had a couple recommendations in regards to tile selection and layout in the tub/shower area, and it turned out beautifully. We are happy with the results and highly recommend his company.

It went well. My only complaint was that he didn't wait the recommended 24 hours for the cement to

dry. Other than that, the work was good. He was on time and worked quickly.

Steve did a great job. He was fairly priced and he worked every day until the work was finished. Every other contractor that I have had at the house wastes time. Steve worked at least eight hours a day.

Description of work:

Total gut bathroom remodel.

Barbara G

Prospect Heights, IL

Steve advised me on fixtures and details that I would buy, and accurately estimated what I might spend. He kindly rescheduled the start of the project to accommodate a family emergency, and when he did begin, the project ran smoothly from start to finish. Whenever some question arose, I was consulted. He understood from the beginning that I wanted a good, updated bathroom, but not something from a magazine. It turned out exactly as I had hoped. Their cleanup was conscientious, and all I had to do to clean in the adjacent room was dusting and vacuuming. I would hesitate to hire him again.

Description of work:

Remodeling and update of a fairly small early 80's bathroom to remove a large claw foot tub and replace it with a modern walk-in shower. Steve's staff removed the wall and floor tiles, plus the bathtub, toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, and lighting. They replaced the subfloor around the toilet area where there had been a leak from the water supply, and applied durock on the floor and on the walls within a new shower enclosure. Replaced drywall elsewhere throughout the room, and installed a new acrylic shower base, tiles within the shower, shower doors, floor tiles, vanity, lighting and all new plumbing. They repainted the walls and trim in colors I chose. Zebra's price included all of the structural components, cements, grout, piping, durock, drywall and paint. With Steve's contractor assistance, we shopped for all of the surface components for the shower, vanity, lights, towel and grab bars, floor and wall tile. These were paid for separately and are not included in the approximate cost of service shown below.

Steve came as promised to give me an estimate on a bath remodel that I'm planning to do. He spent an hour with me explaining pricing of the work and the process of how the remodel would be handled. I had a lot of questions about options for the vanity, tub area, tile, etc. and he answered all my questions. He provided a verbal estimate of $8k for the work which does not include materials because cost of materials varies on what I will be choosing. He seems like a very nice and honest guy and did not pressure me to make a decision at that moment. I would definitely work with him in the future but I have a little more research to do so I haven't made my final decision.

I highly recommend Steve, the owner of Zebra Remodeling. He is an excellent craftsman who cares about his work and doing the best job possible. My kitchen turned out beautiful as well as all the other work

Description of work:

Kitchen Remodeled, new baseboards and painting in living and dining rooms, new front door, installed tile in entryway, and new closet doors.

Alexander P

Palatine, IL

The project turned out great - we love our LED lights! We should have done this sooner and not waited 7 years. We went from no ceiling lights in the living room to (6) 65W LEDs; from (1) light in the library to (4) 65W LEDs. The work was performed very well. The whole project only took a couple of days. Since we didn't have existing wiring, holes had to be cut in the ceiling, but everything was patched up nicely and looks good. Overall, very happy with the quality of work by Zebra.

Description of work:

The project involved installing/retrofitting recessed LED lights and dimmer switches all around the first floor of a two-story home: in the kitchen, living room, dining room, and library.

Mount Prospect, IL

Very good. I would hire again

 Description of work:

Installation and removal of 2 toilets

Alexander P.

Palatine, IL

We are very happy with the way the project turned out. Everything was done right, without cutting any corners, with excellent attention to detail. The owner was very professional, patient, and took extra care to keep the area clean and hardwood floors free from any damage. The price was reasonable. We love our new shower and I would not hesitate to recommend Zebra remodeling to friends or hire them again.

Description of work:

We hired Zebra Remodeling for a complete second floor bathroom remodel that included a bath to shower conversion: new floors, new wall tile, plumbing, lights, vanity, glass doors, paint, etc. We also had an unfinished utility closet that required framing, drywall, electrical and plumbing work.

Dane L.

Schaumburg, IL

The project went fantastic! The project was completed in the time frame promised, in the budget promised and Steve even suggested a couple of changes to the original project that made the project a lot better. We would've regretted not making the changes that Steve suggested, he was on top of it and really listened to what we wanted. I wish we had another project for him to do!

Description of work:

We had a bathroom remodel that was a little complicated, we needed to move some plumbing based on where we wanted the new washer and dryer to be and a new wall built.

Jadwiga C.

Arlington Heights, IL

Everything vents smooth with professionalism and dedication to finish in frame time. Help was provided with buying and transporting needed materials. Work was done efficiently with professionalism and experience. Work space was kept clean as possible. If I need to do this remodeling again - this is the one to go with. Great job!

Description of work:

All the work went very well and in the timeframe he provided. He kept us very informed of his progress and arrival/departure times. No surprises. He's remodeled almost our entire home and we have been very pleased with his work.

Description of work:

Steve gutted and remodeled our attached garage. He removed all drywall and pegboard and framed in a crawl space over 1/2 of the garage. He installed new drywall, pegboard, insulation, wood trim, can lights, motion sensors, side mount garage door opener, garage door, glass block window, etc. We provided the garage door and opener and he supplied the rest of the materials. We painted the garage ourselves to save some money. Project took Steve about 2 1/2 weeks to complete by himself.

All work was done as scheduled. All work was coordinated with the installation of the countertop.

Description of work:

2 ND floor bathroom needed remodeling. Needed flooring replaced, light fixtures, countertop and toilet replaced. All work was done with professionalism. Existing wall was scrubbed down and repainted. The wall was previously wallpapered and person we used earlier to remove and repaint was not done completely and paint was peeling. Steve job was spectacular.

Basically Steve transformed an ugly space that was part office, part storage and part play room into an attractive space, well lite space that is a pleasure to work in, relax in and the my grandchildren enjoy playing in. We have more space than before for storage, but it is now out of site. As evidence of how much we appreciate the quality of Steve's work is the fact that this is the third major project he has carried out for us. He previously remodeled a hall bathroom on the upper level of our house. He installed new drywall, redid all the plumbing, eliminating the loud noises that previously accompanied the use of the bathtub or shower. He installed a new toilet, Jacuzzi tub, a sink, vanity, medicine cabinet and all the associated fixtures. He also did a great job tiling the walls and floors, and the enclosure surrounding the tub. His second project was remodeling our family room, He reinsulated the room, installed new dry wall, added canned lights to our cathedral ceiling, preserving and refinishing the wood beams other contractors would probably need to be discarded in order to redo the ceiling. He reinsulated the spaces around our fire place and added polished granite apron in front of the fire place. He also installed cabinets and book shelves and his associate installed a beautiful Brazilian Cherry hardwood floor. He also replaced five windows, widening two spaces to accommodate two new picture windows. Visitors who view the room always complement its appearance. More importantly, not only is the room lovely, it is now warmer in winter and cooler in summer to match the other rooms in the house. It is now the room in which we spend most of our leisure time. In late Spring or Summer we plan to call on Steve for a 4th project, to install new 6 panel doors for all the upper level, bedrooms and closets, to add canned lighting in the master bedroom, and to paint all the upstairs rooms. The initial quote he gave us is highly competitive.

Description of work:

Steve Zabrocki, who is Zebra Remodeling, remodeled the lower level of our split level home. He replaced all the dry wall and reinsulated the room. He removed an ugly drop ceiling with problematic fluorescent fixtures and added a higher dry wall ceiling with more efficient canned lights. He installed additional outlets and upgraded the electrical service to our home. He partitioned off a section of the room and created additional storage space with high quality shelving. He plastered and painted the walls and ceiling. He also removed the old vinyl glue down floor tiles and replaced them with a with a high quality wood tone floating vinyl flooring. He refinished a closet adjacent to our garage and redid the walls and floors of an adjacent utility room. He also gave us improved lighting and shelving in the utility room. He created a pocket door to close of the utility room and gave us six panel hanging doors to close off the space partitioned for storage. He also installed a wall mounted TV set with hidden outlets for the cable and electrical. He also repaired steps. leading up to the ground floor level and refinished some of the wood work. Not only did he do a great job, he offered helpful suggestions about how to remodel the space, chose a color scheme for the walls and trim, and add touches to improve the overall appearance of the space. We were extremely pleased with the outcome.

Steve is the owner of Zebra Remodeling and they have been in business for more than 20 years. After the initial visit we got an estimate. It included the door and decorative trim installation, ceiling painting, hanging a new chandelier, and replacing old switch for a dimmer. We liked the friendly contractor and the proposal, so the work date was set. Everything was done in one day. The final result was perfect. Steve was knowledgeable, experienced, clean, and very pleasant. His price was very reasonable. After consulting with his other clients, we decided to hire him for a much bigger job in our home.

Description of work:

Several months ago we decided to paint our dining room and make some cosmetic changes to it. The most complicated part of the renovation was changing the closet door. A small, untypical closet is located in our dining room as a remainder after a bedroom. A long time ago, one wall was removed and the bedroom got converted to a dining room (opened to the living room). Our do-it-yourself approach quickly disappeared after a visit in local Home Depot store. Their employee made us realize how much skill the job might require. My husband decided to hire a contractor referred to us by a friend.

Maggie C.

This contractor was recommended to us by our good friends. They told us if you want to get guess work out of contracting work, use this guy.  He is a perfectionist.  He did our bathroom and I was so happy with his work we ended up calling him for a kitchen remodeling as well.  He delivered and passed our expectations twice. Highly recommended.

Steve was very professional and detail oriented.  He ended up working on our kitchen, bathrooms and also finished our basement.  He has given us an initial quote that he stuck with.  He was very easy to work with and produced top quality.  Since then he has done work for many of our friends with consistent results.  Wife approved.

I recently purchased a condo that needed major remodeling. Steve and a helper completely remodeled the kitchen and two bathrooms. He also painted the every room, and did many other misc. items.
The quality of his work was excellent and he also had some great design ideas. He was very professional and easy to work with. He has done work for a couple of my friends and they were also very pleased with him.

He gave me an estimate for bathroom remodeling - was very professional and thorough, patient with my questions. Would have liked to use him but didn't have the funds, will hopefully call him in the future.

We had some weather damage from previous winter and they did kitchen remodeling and repair. They rebuilt the ceiling that had water damage, replaced some appliances, built in gas rings and countertops.
He was pretty much available and did the work. He was open to suggestions. He said he did not know how to do something that he has not done but he was able to get through the answers.

I used Zebra Remodeling Inc. They remodeled the kitchen. He did some home plumbing, electrical and then just mounted some cabinets.
It went really well. He was very professional, very responsive and very accommodating. Their price was reasonable.

Kitchen remodeling including cabinets, counter top, tiles on wall, lights, and wood floor through out to living room.
Steve and his team are very hard workers. Our house was built in 1976 and the kitchen was original.   We had complete Kitchen remodeling and new wood floor.   Because Steve is general contractor and carpenter and electrician and plumber and painter, all work was done seamlessly (except we had to wait for granite counter top).   He makes good suggestion for any small details we asked for.
My wife and I are completely satisfied his professionality and his work.
Thank you Steve!

Enclosed plumbing in a square bump-out, applied drywall to ceiling, covering old ceiling tiles and plastered flat, installed crown molding around the room, painted ceiling and wall.
We had a plumbing catastrophe in the ceiling and wall of our dining room for which we brought in plumbers to fix the problem.  The aftermath was an exposed pipe in our dining room and a large hole in our ceiling.  Zebra came in as the second lowest bid, but his professionalism and candor more than made up for the difference.  Steve put my wife and I at ease from the very beginning and the end product was even better than we anticipated.

Install five interior doors in existing frames, including hardware. Paint doors and existing frames. Labor and partial material: paint.
Install bathroom vanity, sink, faucet, linen cabinet, and mirror. Assemble IKEA cabinets. Applied skin coat and painted bathroom walls and ceiling.
I had used this company recently to remodel my kitchen and things went so well it was a no-brainer to go back to them for the next project I wanted done.  Due to ordering the doors, a vacation, and the Fourth of July holiday the start date was pushed back a little longer than I would have liked, but the work was done efficiently and everything looks great. Steve pays attention to the little details, which makes a big difference.  He takes pride in his work and does things correctly and well.

Build soffit around the sprinkler pipes, finish with the drywall and paint only the soffit (area 250 LF - 350 LF).Build utility closet in the kitchen area (approximately 6'x8'). Finish with the drywall, only one side of the wall exposed to the kitchen and paint only this wall. Install flush hollow or louver bi-fold door. Labor and material provided by the contractor: construction wood, drywall, drywall corners, compound, primer, paint, bi-fold door, primer, paint, screws and nails. Customer provides sprinkler finishing ring covers.
We installed a new sprinkler system in our house and we needed somebody to build the soffits that would cover the sprinkler pipes. Steve was very punctual and you could tell from the very beginning that he is knowledgeable and somebody that will do a great job. We talked about what needs to be done; he had thoughtful questions, did some measurements and gave me a competitive quote. That weekend I met 5 other contractors and Steve was by far the best. He started the work immediately and finished everything in time by the end of the week. The quality of the work was great and I would definitely hire Zebra Remodeling again.

Remove existing kitchen cabinets, countertops and baseboards.
Install thin drywall over the existing walls, tape, finish, primer and paint.
Paint the existing tile ceiling, including the ceiling molding. Install laminate wood panel folding floor over the existing tiles.
Install new baseboards 4 1/4 and shoe molding, paint. Install basic new kitchen cabinets (Medallion, Criterion, half ol, Bristol Maple), including wall cabinets, base cabinets, lazy susan, approximately 12.5 LF.
Install dishwasher, hook up to the plumbing and connect to the existing electric (customer provide dishwasher).
Install basic laminate countertop over the base kitchen cabinets, including 4" backslash. Install back existing kitchen sink.
All construction debris has to be clean and remove from the property.
2 years warranty for the labor and construction material provided by the contractor (labor and basic material, including cabinets, countertops, dishwasher, wood panel floor and baseboards.)

I contacted Steve through Angie's List and he was at my house that weekend to give an estimate.  He suggested a gut remodel, which was out of my price range.  I suggested he think outside the box and he did.  He came up with a plan to give me a new kitchen at a price I could afford.  Half the kitchen was to be gut remodeled and half was to be given a facelift.

The contract was signed and the cabinets ordered a week later.  The job was estimated to take two weeks once the cabinets came in.  The cabinets arrived sooner than expected.  When they were delivered the Menards delivery men could not fit the Lazy Susan in through the basement or kitchen door.  They wanted us to remove the back door to our house (in December in Chicago), but refused to assist us.   I called Steve and he was at my house within 30 minutes.  He took the door off, got the cabinet in, and was on his merry way.

The job started right after the New Year.  Steve and his assistant Lucas worked quickly and efficiently.  They went above and beyond, taking little details into consideration.  The old kitchen sink was reinstalled and sprung a leak, which was disappointing and left broken, but otherwise the job was completed well within the time frame and the kitchen looks great!

Marilyn S
Chicago, IL

Zebra Remodeling Inc. installed cabinets in the kitchen about two weeks ago.
They were exceptional.  They were very professional.  The cabinet looks perfect, and it's beautiful.  They did a good job, even though the walls weren't all that straight.  I can't say enough good things about them.  They were very approachable.  They listened to what I needed.  They were willing to take on extra things while we were there, so I appreciated that

Quality is excellent...very detailed.

Michael G
Villa Park, IL

We had a full bathroom remodel:

·     demolition of old bathroom including: removal of old tile floor, cast iron tub, old countertops, old glass block window, tile shower surround, wood paneling, old counter top and sink, removing old soffits above the sinks and shower

·     New tub installation with new shower heads and tile surround

·     new vanity

·     additional sink and power outlets to go with it (old bathroom only had one outlet and sink)

·     new floor tile

·     new drywall

·     new window

·     new paint

We wanted to remodel the main bathroom in our house.  The shower surround was cracked and outdated along with the sink and the vanity.  After receiving an estimate from Steve, we bought the needed items (tile, grout, tub, fixtures, faucets and vanity) and Steve provided the rest of the building materials.  Steve also gave suggestions on what to purchase and where the best places to look for supplies.

After we had everything, he started work.  He quickly and cleanly demolished the old bathroom including soffits above the vanity and tub.  The rebuild went well. We asked that additional lights be added to the room along with an additional sink.  We also asked that he re-tile the floor and the shower surround as well.  He took care of everything involved and it looks great. He did and especially good job with the tile work.

During the project, he provided suggestions and feedback as well.  He is courteous and very professional and we have no concerns about his work.

They did some remodeling work for me. They remodeled the fireplace by removing the old facade and doing drywall and tile. They remodeled a staircase landing and refinished the floor.
He came with suggestions about how to make things better. I don't have much experience in that area, so he suggested things I hadn't thought of before. They seemed knowledgeable in their work. I was comfortable with them doing everything. They did a great job with the clean-up. There was a lot of dust, but it was unavoidable. Everything else was spick-and-span.

Kitchen remodeling: remove old kitchen cabinets; remove soffit and redo plumbing in it; install new porcelain floor in kitchen; install recessed lighting; install new cabinets, backsplash and appliances.
Zebra Remodeling was one of the most competitive quotes that I got. They are pretty firm on the price, probably because their offer is close to the best it can be. Steve came the second time to sign the contract. And the work was scheduled to begin 3 weeks later. And it actually started one week ahead upon my request. Steve and Tom worked 8-6 on most days from start to finish, except for a couple of times when they needed to take one day off to finish some previous project, which I perfectly understand as the nature of any remodeling work, and a longer period when I needed to have someone install the countertop before they can continue. Steve is very experienced, capable and can handle any situation that arises during the process. He is willing to listen to customer and is flexible enough to accommodate requests. The height of the new refrigerator was a little tight for the existing opening. They managed to raise the overhead soffit a bit as additional work for a reasonable price. Overall it went very well. And the result is what we expected. I would hire them again for my future project.

Anthony F

I had a roughly 5ft by 5ft piece of wall removed from between my kitchen and dining room and a piece of countertop installed. A significant amount to electrical needed to be rerouted. All the demo, framing, electrical, and drywall was done in one day, with a break in the middle to fabricate the countertop, then a half day to install, sand, paint and put on the finishing touches.
The quote process was pretty standard, Steve was on time, and provided his quote when he said he would. The price was very competitive. Steve and his co-worker did an excellent and timely job, working with my schedule. There was much more electrical in the wall than anticipated, but Steve rerouted it all properly and didn't even hint at any additional cost. He took extra care to reinforce the area where i was going to mount a monitor and installed the mount for me. My major concern was the quality of the drywall work as this is a major focal point in the room, and Steve did a great job. Crisp clean corners and excellent drywall work. It was a dusty job, but he did the best he could to control it. I was comfortable leaving him alone in the house to perform the work, and when i was around, he was very tolerant of my constant questions. If I HAD to make one complaint (and it is minor) it is that he showed up a little late. I will certainly be soliciting quotes from Steve for any future work i want to do. He is great.

Removed old kitchen cabinets, counters, floor, soffits, casings. Installed new cabinets, casings, recessed lighting and painted.
They did a great job and look great. They kept to the timeline that I provided and stayed on schedule even with other parties involved. They will be back to install doors and trim when I have those available.

Steve remodeled our large laundry room and added a new office room 11 X 11 and created a smaller laundry space next to our garage, added a new dryer vent, installed exterior doors, relocated garage door and put a new closet.
Steve and Tom did excellent job in both the rooms and did a excellent finish. He accepted changes in the middle and worked diligently to satisfy our changing needs and gave excellent suggestions as well. We love our new office room and laundry room.

Dinesh T
Libertyville, IL

Steve did a complete remodel of our master bath with new shower with body jets, new Jacuzzi tub, and vanity, extended our shower to the adjacent closet, moved the attic access, installed exhaust fan and other work. He also built a walk-in closet in the adjacent bedroom (entry from master bedroom)
Steve and Tom did the work and were very punctual, professional and did excellent job in our bathroom and walk in closet. Finishing was very nice and we love our new bathroom.

This project consisted of: Removing the existing kitchen cabinets. Removing the existing tile floor, approximately 280 sq ft installing new underlayment, installing new tiles with epoxy grouting, and new baseboard and shoe molding. Installing new kitchen cabinets with crown molding. Removing an existing soffit. Some minor plumbing and HVAC work. Steve did not install the granite counter top. Also, I did the electrical work and painting.
The project went very smoothly from start to finish. Steve did the project himself and did not use any subs or helpers. Steve is a very talented handyman and is able to do about all phases of a kitchen remodeling project. I found Steve to be honest and of good character. I was comfortable leaving him in my house alone while I went out. I also liked the fact that he was reasonable in his charges for extras. The quality of all of his work was excellent. He was very professional and cleaned up the area at the end of each day. I have already recommended him to a friend.

Remodeled Family room including installation of Pella Windows, designer series, new hardwood floor, drywall, insulation, wiring, recessed lighting, new granite apron for fireplace and trim. Painted walls stained trim and installed bookcases Remodeled bathroom including all plumbing, rewiring and installation of bathroom fixtures and cabinets. Wired and installed Jacuzzi - style bathtub, installed wall and floor tile, and painted walls and trim. Installed and painted six panel doors.
Excellent job. Family room and bathroom completely transformed. Couldn't be more pleased, and at a cost nearly 20,000 less than quoted by several well-known home improvement companies in the Chicago area.

His tile work was part of a total bath remodel in two of our bathrooms. The upstairs bathroom was gutted and redone. Tumbled travertine marble was installed on the shower walls and marble tile installed on the floor. Ceramic tile was installed in a powder room, adjoining hallway and closet. The cost above was for all the work he performed in our two bathrooms, not just the tile work.
The tile work went very well. He installed cement backer board for the shower surround and floor. In the powder room, ceramic tile was adhered to concrete flooring. With recommendations from Steve, the wall design changed, with a subsequent trip or two to the the tile shop for more supplies. We had a slight cracking issue come up in the grout on the upstairs bathroom floor, which was due to walking on floor prior to it setting up properly. When Steve applied additional grout to repair crack, the problem has not resurfaced.

Remodeled 2 bathrooms, walk-in hallway closet and installed new back door and storm door for $12,000 (his installation work cost $7900, rest was cabinets/tile, etc. that we purchased). In first bath, he gutted room, removed soffit above tub. Installed new drywall/cement backer board, tub, travertine tile surround with accent pieces, marble flooring, exhaust fan (included running venting pipe to roof), can lighting, toilet, cabinet, mirror and wonderful glass block window that lets light in from other bathroom. Also included installing red oak trim around floor and trim around glass block window, and improving plumbing under sink. In second bath (powder), he gutted room, installed ceramic floor tile, exhaust fan, can lights, toilet, red oak door and trim, cabinet, sink, sink lighting. He cleaned up plumbing issues under sink. Closet involved extending ceramic tile into hallway and into closet. Installed new red oak door and trim. Steve removed old back door and storm door and installed new steel door and storm door.
This is the second large project we had Steve work on (other one was a kitchen/LR/DR remodel). He started right after the holidays and took 4 weeks to complete from start/finish to remodel 2 bathrooms, one hallway walk-in closet, and remove/install new back door and storm door installation. His work cost us $7,900 for labor and supplies (We purchased $4,000 worth of tile, red oak doors, trim, cabinets, toilets, tub, etc on our own so they were ready when he arrived to do the work). We stained the doors/trim ourselves and did our own painting (to keep some of the cost down). He always arrived on time to do the work. If he was going to be late one day, he would always let us know in advance. Had no problem leaving him in the house to work on the project while we ran errands - very trustworthy. He asked us lots of questions during the remodeling project to make sure the work was done the way we wanted it done. He can perform any remodeling work (rough carpentry/framing, drywall, finish carpentry, plumbing, electrical, tile installation, etc.) at a reasonable price.

Zebra Remodeling was working on multiple jobs on multiple properties. They did full tear down and remodel of our kitchen and bathrooms at all of our homes (and we lived in 3 of them since we used them first). We have recommended him to many of our friends and all people that used him loved the experience. They are very professional, precise and will do anything to make you happy. Wife happy = happy household :)
Every project with them started as meeting with the quote, timeframes of the project and the price were discussed. They get really busy so make sure to call ahead and try to get on their schedule. After the full agreement of the job description including the details were finished, contract was faxed to us and signed after review. They were able to start the work within next 3 weeks. Remodeled kitchen, living room and dining room. Steve's estimate for remodel was $5,100 (not including wood floor which was separate $5600). Remaining cost was our quarter-sawn oak cabinets from home improvement store, countertops, sink, new appliances, etc. Work included removing existing cabinets, flooring, trim, soffits in kitchen. We moved a doorway location coming from the dining room into the kitchen. New cabinets, under cabinet lighting, can lights, improved plumbing, gas line, water line, etc. were installed. New hardwood flooring was installed (separate report for that work on Angie's list). Red oak baseboards and trim were installed (we stained wood trim ourselves as we had prior staining experience). We painted the rooms ourselves as we had prior painting experience. He hooked up all appliances that we purchased. He installed a new red oak door and trims for a closet and installed new shelving.
Overall, the project went very well. Estimated timeline for project was 4-6 weeks. Project took a full 6 weeks to complete and Steve kept us apprised of timing. Once the cabinets were installed, we had to wait 4-5 days for laminate countertops to be made to size specifications. There was significant electrical work in the kitchen as 9 can lights were installed and outlets moved, etc. A good portion of the drywall on the ceiling had to be redone (due to prior soffits being removed). What drywall remained was remudded to remove texturization which took several days. This was a lot more work than just installing new cabinetry. The project was almost a gut and redo. Steve asked us a lot of questions to make sure the work was being done to our specifications.

As part of a large kitchen, living room and dining room remodel, we utilized Steve's services to install 750 sq. ft of red oak hardwood flooring in our kitchen, living room and dining room. He sub-contracted out the work to his brother in law. Installation included all flooring and 6 wood floor vent covers, several sanding, as well as 2 coats of satin varnish. In addition, 8 stair treads from the entry way to living room were sanded by hand and refinished (nail holes from prior carpet tacking were filled in). A lot of manual work went into refinishing those stair treads.
Installation went well. 2 installers came in and nailed the red oak strips to the subfloor. They fixed several areas where the subfloor squeaked so that the new floor would not squeak. 6 wood vents were installed in the floor and floor sanded several times (caused a lot of dust in the house that could not be avoided). They applied a satin varnish to the floor (which could not be walked on for 12 hours). We had to stay with family as the smell from the varnish was strong (even though it was considered low odor). The installers came back the next day to do a light final sanding and final coating on the floor (we again relocated). The floor looks wonderful.
